Sunsets and Silhouettes.... Sunset is a great time to venture out to take some photographs and grab some great Silhouettes of the countryside with some fantastic colours in the sky. The trees in these photographs add so much to the composition of these photographs. Imagine if you take the trees out of these photographs, you then have a very dark base and a coloured top with very little else, but add a tree in to the frame and it makes these sunset photographs so much more interesting don't you think. I was also lucky to have the nice Porsche SUV passing by in one of my photographs which adds another dimension to the overall picture and make it like a Photograph you'll find in a car magazine rather than just a Landscape Sunset Photo. Try you're own sunset photographs and experiment with trees and other things like buildings, bridges, tall chimneys, roof tops, any anything else rather than just the sun and that red/orange/blue sky. How to take sunset silhouette photographs Composition.... First find your shot. Look for a scene that you think that will look good using the technique I described earlier. It's not going to look like my photos, it's still going to be light and you'll be able to see the trees and scenery at the bottom of your proposed shot. Then.... Focus your camera on a brighter area in the sky maybe somewhere at the side of the sun if its still in the sky. (not directly at the sun). If you are using a DSLR use a single point focus. If its a camera phone usually a tap on your screen at the point you want to focus does the trick. Whether you are using a DSLR, Phone Camera or something else, your camera will usually automatically expose the photo for the bright focus spot and which will in turn make the camera darken the rest of your photograph. If you are not getting the silhouette you want you can use EV (exposure compensation) on your DSLR and make the photo darker or on your phone after you tap the bright spot you can usually also adjust the brightness down then. Take a few shots and see how you get on. If this or my other Photography Guides have helped you, you can show your appreciation to a small independent business and help me keep spending time visiting and posting these location here for you to enjoy and visit by buying me a coffee.
